On August 12 local time, the government of New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea held the opening ceremony for Punam-Poropop Section of Lanzarote Highway of Namatanai in Kudukudu, Namatanai District. Julius Chan, governor of New Ireland Province, other provincial government officials and the employees of the Papua New Guinea Project Department of the International Company participated in the ceremony.
The Lanzarote Highway of Namatanai is totally 80km long. The main works are road widening, pavement filling and compaction, related water drainage works and asphalt laying of some road segments. So far, the International Company has completed the main works in the contract for the first seven phases and the road is ready for traffic. The road from Punam to Poropop is now fully in service. The later construction works such as box culverts and culvert pipe ends are in fast progress.
At the opening ceremony, Julius Chan, governor of New Ireland Province, highly praised the construction quality of MCC19 and expressed gratitude to MCC19 for promoting local employment and boosting socio-economic development of New Ireland Province. Also, he expected MCC19 to do better and continue cooperation with New Ireland Province to create more high-quality projects. Solomon, director of Engineering Department of New Ireland Province, highly praised the construction results of MCC19. He said he was glad to have cooperated with MCC19 in long term, MCC19 had always achieved the best possible outcome and he was proud to witness such a grandiose project during his tenure. He praised that this highway is the most beautiful road in Papua New Guinea.
